Cam-Splint Arm Support

Product

Camera monopod that straps to your forearm to offer support to the wrist whilst fiming, whether by resting on your hip/waist, or using your other hand.

Background

In the first year of EPD, this brief was to design a wearable product from Zotefoam - which is generally used for packaging, impact protection and medical purposes. It is a closed cell foam which can be heat formed and ranges from soft, flexible and compliant to firm, hard and rigid. Other properties include lightweight, durable, bouyant, water resistant, good thermal insulator, non-toxic and UV resistant. I had at the time been filming with a hand-held camera and suffered significant strain on my wrist, so using the comfort factor and lightweight properties of Zotefoam, I was able to remedy that and also reduce camera shake.
